Limi Sharif is a medical student who has always had a passion for the visual arts. She enjoys creating paintings of all kinds, but particularly illustrations of her Ethiopian heritage. She is interested in the intersection of the arts and medicine and how encouraging medical trainees to engage in the arts can create more compassionate physicians. Through Auxocardia, she has found a way of bridging the gap between those interests and hopes to continue engaging in similar spaces throughout her career.

The word ‘auxocardia,’ is defined as “enlargement of the heart, either by hypertrophy or dilation” (medicaldictionary.com). At Auxocardia Journal, we like to broaden that definition of heart expansion to also include, ‘the process of becoming a healthcare provider.’ Auxocardia Journal (auxocardia.com) was founded in 2020 as a collaborative, community space for learners in the health professions to share their reflections on the process of becoming a healthcare provider.
