Kimberly Kascak is an assistant professor in the Office of Interprofessional Initiatives at the Medical University of South Carolina. Ms. Kascak is a co-founder of Pattison’s Academy, a non-profit public charter school specializing in children with severe disabilities. She is an author of the developing Pediatric Awareness and Sensory Motor Assessment. She focuses on academic innovation, online instructional design and interprofessional education. Ms. Kascak directs interprofessional courses required by students at the Medical University of South Carolina to teach concepts related to interprofessional education, teamwork and collaborative practice.

Interprofessional education has a history of waxing and waning both nationally and locally. Without local historical knowledge, IPE programs may find themselves repeating missteps from the past and ignoring earlier successes; engagement with stakeholders may falter.
