Dr. Thomas Young is the Jim and Suzanne Elliott and Family Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine. He received his MD at the University of Louisville College of Medicine and completed a Pediatric Residency at Riley Children’s Hospital, Indiana School of Medicine, and a Community Pediatrics Fellowship at Pittsburgh Children’s Hospital. He is the founder and chair of UK Shoulder to Shoulder Global and Director of the Pediatric Global Health Track.

The University of Kentucky (UK) has a long-standing partnership with Ecuador, beginning in 1965 building to the first short term experience in global health (StEGH) in 2002. In 2007 the Shoulder to Shoulder Health Clinic opened and remains supported through a UK and Ecuador partnership. The first StEGHs utilized uni-professional and then multidisciplinary co-located models of care, but this evolved over the years toward a collaborative model.
