Dr. Suzanne C. Smeltzer, the inaugural Richard and Marianne Kreider Endowed Professor for Nursing in Vulnerable Populations at Villanova University College of Nursing, recently received Professor Emerita status at the University. Her research has focused for the last 25 years on health issues of individuals with disability and the use of innovative strategies to integrate disability-related content into the undergraduate and graduate nursing programs at Villanova University. Her research findings have been published in top peer-reviewed nursing and interprofessional journals. She is the recipient of numerous awards that recognize her contributions to the health and well-being of individuals with disability.

Background: The Partnering to Transform Health Outcomes with Persons with Intellectual Disabilities (PATH-PWIDD) Program, funded by the Administration for Community Living, is a workforce development program aimed at improving the education of healthcare professional students in the health and healthcare of persons with IDD through implementation of high-impact interprofessional curricular materials and practice experiences at our five core partner institutions.
