Stephanie earned her master’s degree in social work from San Jose State University in 2019. Prior to joining the Memory and Aging Center, Stephanie was a social worker with the VA Medical Center’s HUD-VASH program supporting unhoused veterans. Stephanie first developed an interest in geriatrics during her time at a nonprofit organization called Sequoia Living where she provided support and case management services to older adults living in San Francisco. Stephanie is currently part of the UCSF Memory and Aging Center Care Ecosystem team to help improve care and support for patients with dementia and their caregivers.

Background and significance:Many patients assessed by the Memory and Aging Center at UCSF Health are well insured with caregiver support and not from underrepresented racial and ethnic backgrounds. They do not represent the San Francisco Bay Area’s regional diversity seeking specialty referrals. With longevity and the chronic conditions of aging, the United States will have an estimated 14 million adults with some type of dementia by 2060, with women and minorities most impacted (The Truth About Aging and Dementia | CDC, 2019).
