Dr. Rita Gura is an Associate Professor and the founding Program Director of the Physical Therapist Assistant Program at William Rainey Harper College. She has led the initiative in the development of the interprofessional education program at the college and serves as the Interprofessional Education Program Coordinator. Her clinical background is in orthopedic physical therapy and healthcare operations.

Interprofessional faculty peer mentoring fosters learning together in the nexus to address what matters most to advance and sustain interprofessional practice and education (IPE). Formal and informal programs utilizing faculty or expert patients as mentors exist for interprofessional students, residents, and fellows and intraprofessional pre-/post-doctoral students, early career faculty, and clinical and translational research learners. Harper College has over 12 different health career degree and certificate programs, yet students spend most of their time surrounded by other students in their same program. Students previously graduated without the opportunity to learn much about the professions they would soon be working alongside. During the pandemic, faculty and staff interested in interprofessional education created an activity allowing students to virtually interact with others in different health career programs.
