Nannette Cowen, PhD, FNP-BC is a Clinical Associate Professor and Coordinator of the Family Health Nursing Program for the Binghamton University, Decker College of Nursing and Health Sciences. She is also a member of the Interprofessional Education and Practice (IPE) faculty at the University. In addition to her interest in utilizing simulation and IPE within her teaching, Cowen has over 20 years of experience as a family nurse practitioner and is presently practicing as a family nurse practitioner.

Poverty is a social determinant of health (SDOH) that interprofessional health care teams are trained to address; yet, students in these educational programs may have limited experience with poverty and its impact on patient and community engagement, care, and outcomes.
