Mitchel Erickson, BSc, BSN, MS, ACNP-C, DNP has practiced in emergency medicine for 25 years and just completed his Doctor of Nursing Practice degree at UCSF. He is an Associate Clinical Professor at UCSF School of Nursing. He developed the role of UCSF Health’s Chief of Advanced Practice overseeing 600 APPs. He is currently the chair of California Board of Registered Nursing’s APRN Advisory Committee and has a board position on the National Nurse Practitioner Residency and Fellowship Training Consortium. He has several QI interests: advanced practice provider role optimization, new provider onboarding, and a recent focus on optimizing age-friendly health services.

Background and significance:Many patients assessed by the Memory and Aging Center at UCSF Health are well insured with caregiver support and not from underrepresented racial and ethnic backgrounds. They do not represent the San Francisco Bay Area’s regional diversity seeking specialty referrals. With longevity and the chronic conditions of aging, the United States will have an estimated 14 million adults with some type of dementia by 2060, with women and minorities most impacted (The Truth About Aging and Dementia | CDC, 2019).
