Dr. Marcia Downer has instructed in the cardiopulmonary and clinical assessment series of courses at Seton Hall University's Physical Therapy program since 2015. She is a Certified Neurological Specialist through the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties. Dr. Downer is a licensed PT with over 30 years of expertise in the acute care setting and continues to practice at a level-I trauma center. Her research interests include simulation-based education in physical therapy, PT/PTA intra-professional education, student persistence in academic programs, and interprofessional healthcare education.

Healthcare educators must view themselves as knowledge brokers who create learning opportunities to transmit scientific knowledge, information, and innovations to students to advance person-centered care (Sverrisson, 2001). Knowledge brokers serve as a link between what we know and how we know it, why it is important to know, and ensure that all who need to know have the information. Traditionally, knowledge brokers work in the public domain with patients and the private domain in laboratories (Blondel, 2006).
