A. Lynn Williams, PhD, CCC-SLP, ASHA Fellow, FNAP is Associate Dean for Academic Affairs in the College of Clinical and Rehabilitative Health Sciences and Professor in the Department of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology at East Tennessee State University. Dr. Williams oversees curriculum development for a number of allied health professions within her college and is the IPE coordinator for her college, which is part of an Academic Health Sciences Center that includes 5 health colleges. She is a Distinguished Fellow of the National Academy of Practice in Speech-Language Pathology and is the 2021 President of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).

Background/Rationale: The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) is implementing efforts to advance interprofessional education and collaborative practice (IPECP). Barriers to IPECP have been noted in ASHA member perspectives: not fully understanding IPECP as unique from multi- or interdisciplinary services and a lack of perceived added value. ASHA engaged a communication consulting firm in 2019 to assist with developing effective messaging that enhances understanding of the IPECP construct across stakeholders and practice settings.
