Lya Cartwright-Stroupe DNP, APRN, CPNP, NEA-BC, NPD-BC, is the Manager of Nursing Research and Professional Development, Magnet Program Director, and Transition to Practice Program Director at WVU Medicine-Ruby Memorial Hospital. Lya has led Magnet and Transition to Practice Programs to accreditation. She is a commissioner with the American Nurses Credentialing Center and has been a presenter at local, state, national, and international conferences. As a nurse leader, Lya is passionate about leading strategic initiatives for evidence-based change in nursing practice, policy, procedures, patient safety, and recruitment and retention, and offers creative solutions to challenges in the dynamic healthcare environment.

Background Physical and Occupational Therapy students consistently find it difficult to function in acute care settings due to the critical nature of patients, the need for teamwork and communication, and quick decision making required to treat the patient effectively and safely.
