Larry M. Gant serves as Director of DEI for the School of Social Work, University of Michigan. His previous work in HIV/AIDS pandemics allowed him to participate in and co-create interdisciplinary health teams locally and nationally to improve HIV related prevention, care, and treatment in urban and rural communities. The commitment to expanding the opportunities for social work students to learn and engage within interpersonal health networks led to his interest in the work of IPE and his current service therein since 2020.

In the summer of 2020, the University of Michigan’s Health Science Council of Deans (HSC) and Center for Interprofessional Education (C-IPE) were united by a desire to collectively address health inequities in society. The HSC charged the C-IPE to bring together dean-appointed diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) leads from 9 of our 10 health science schools, as well as students, patients, and DEI experts to lead the first stage of this effort.
