Kelly Horton is the Interprofessional Education Coordinator for the Medical College of Wisconsin and Marquette University. She began her IPE Coordinator role after 9 years as an elementary educator. She has a bachelor’s degree in Philosophy and Political Science from Carthage College and a Master's degree in Teaching from Cardinal Stritch University. For the past two years, she's brought her education expertise and curriculum design experience to health sciences education in the Milwaukee area.

Introduction: Interprofessional Education (IPE) is a critical component of medical education as it prepares students to collaborate effectively on healthcare teams. Students are introduced to the core IPE competencies during the pre-clinical years, but there are few intentional IPE activities during clinical rotations. In 2016, the Medical College of Wisconsin and Marquette University made a commitment to interprofessional education and jointly hired an interprofessional education coordinator. They recognized that neither school had funding for a full-time coordinator, so they collaborated to create a coordinator role that was divided between the two institutions. After 5 years, both institutions still feel that this position is worthwhile and adds value to the health sciences education each school provides.
