Karen Gessler, Ed Specialist- Educational Leadership

Karen Gessler is an Educational Specialist for the Department of Pharmacy Practice and Pharmaceutical Sciences. Her background is in curriculum, instruction, and educational leadership. Karen collaborates with faculty to create meaningful and outcome-based instructional opportunities for the students. She designed a common Framework for Learning that faculty use to organize their learning objectives, instructional resources, and application opportunities for students during instruction. She supports students with their overall learning and helps them focus on their own study skills and learning habits to ensure they are as successful as possible in the PharmD program.

Background: Given the constant need for delivering safe care in today’s healthcare settings, there is an ever-growing necessity to educate health professional students about patient safety and prepare them to identify and address medical and medication errors as an interprofessional team. Due to COVID-19, many interprofessional experiences swiftly pivoted to virtual delivery.
