Julie Hurley, DScPAs, PA-C is an Assistant Professor in the School of Physician Assistant Studies at MCPHS University. She has 17 years of experience working as an oncology PA. She is Chair of the Progress and Remediation Committee and serves on the Curriculum Committee. Dr. Hurley coordinates Clinical Management of the Patient Course using a case-based learning and critical-thinking approach. Academic interests include defining student success, IPE, and incorporating serious illness discussions and end-of-life education into the curriculum. Her previous research has identified the benefits of PA and Pharmacy students working together to reduce prescription errors and encourage cost reduction.

Background:Over three academic years, students from pharmacy, physician assistant (PA), and dental schools collaborated on interprofessional, case-based nicotine cessation activities. Event evaluation was done through pre- and post-event surveys to gauge self-reported learning outcomes related to interprofessional education. In the 2021-2022 academic year, pharmacy and PA students piloted self- and peer-evaluation utilizing an abridged Interprofessional Collaborator Assessment Rubric (ICAR).
