John Tegzes is the Director of Interprofessional Practice & Education (IPE) at Western University of Health Sciences. He is a veterinarian with specialty certification in Toxicology (Diplomate of the American Board of Veterinary Toxicology). He is a Professor of Toxicology at Western University of Health Sciences, where he was a founding faculty member in The College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM). Within the CVM he has served in several roles, notably as a Curriculum Director from 2004 to 2012. He then transitioned to his current role of Director of Interprofessional Practice and Education (IPE) for a university-wide curricular program that includes students from nine health professions. He focuses on bringing these students together to focus on the competencies that are necessary to deliver high-quality and value-based care which is both person- and population-centered.
He serves on several national committees in the United States that focus on IPE and on competency-based veterinary education (CBVE). He represents the veterinary profession on the Interprofessional Professionalism Collaborative, and on the Interprofessional Education Collaborative. He is currently the veterinary education representative on the Working Group which is charged with revision of the Interprofessional Education Competency Framework. Additionally, he is a member of the working group of the Competency-Based Veterinary Education (CBVE) for the American Association of Veterinary Medical Colleges.

Interprofessional education and collaborative practice (IPECP) have evolved over the past two decades. Interprofessional education (IPE) curricula for health professional students have expanded beyond the single, attendance-optional learning events typical of IPE in the early 2000s (and earlier).
