Dr. John Owen serves as UVA Center for Interprofessional Collaborations (CIPC) program coordinator for the nationally recognized Train-the-Trainer Interprofessional Team Development Program (T3-ITDP). Prior to his partial retirement in 2019 as an Assistant Professor, UVA School of Nursing and Associate Director, UVA CIPC, Dr. Owen served as Research Director for the Center for the Advancement of Generalist Medicine and as Project Manager for the Office of Continuing Medical Education, both at the UVA School of Medicine. Dr. Owen has been published and presented on a wide range of medical education subjects with an emphasis in Interprofessional Education and Interprofessional Practice.

The Train-the-Trainer Interprofessional Team Development Program (T3-ITDP) is a national professional development program for interprofessional teams of health professions educators, clinicians, and administrators. Institutional teams each consisting of three or more members representing at least two professions participate in an interactive 3.5-day training designed to immerse trainees in the design, implementation, and assessment of evidence-based IPE activities and programming.
