Dr. Hector Chapa is a Board-Certified Obstetrician-Gynecologist (ObGyn). He completed his ObGyn residency at Parkland Hospital in 2000. In 2015, Dr. Chapa joined the Texas A&M University College of Medicine. He serves as the ObGyn clerkship director as Assistant Clinical Professor of ObGyn, Director of Interprofessional Education, Course Director for three courses, and is an attending physician for Texas A&M Physicians’ Family Medicine Residency program. Dr. Chapa has been awarded the Arnold P. Gold Humanism Award (2019) and was named Educator of the Year by the College of Medicine’s clinical campus in 2020, and was ararded the clinical faculty of the year for academic year 2021-2022 by the Texas A&M Physicians Family Medicine Residency.

Values/Ethics for Interprofessional Practice is addressed less frequently in the published literature than the other IPEC Core Competencies of Roles and Responsibilities, Interprofessional Communication, and Teams and Teamwork. This may reflect a dearth of efforts to fully integrate this competency into interprofessional curricula. Such a deficiency is problematic in that managing complex ethical situations while maintaining mutual respect and common values is a substantial challenge, particularly across professions.
