Firas Hikmat is a rising second-year medical student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Medicine and Public Health who has significant interest in interprofessional education and applications. Firas believes that Interprofessional practices will further enhance his exposure to individuals from different professions and better equip him with the tools and resources necessary to be a good physician who can advocate for his patients while simultaneously integrating interdisciplinary innovative projects within the healthcare setting.

The four core competencies of interprofessional collaborative practice are values and ethics, role and responsibilities, communication, and teamwork. Interprofessional practice and education (IPE) experiences often center around these competencies, particularly in clinical settings. As students in the inaugural UW-Madison IPE Path of Distinction (PoD) cohort, we aim to conduct a project focused on curriculum development to expand IPE integration into clinical and community experiences.
