Erica Sherman is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Michigan-Flint, an Associate Director of Clinical Education, and a practicing physical therapist with a Board Certification in Geriatric Physical Therapy. Within the clinical education curriculum, Dr. Sherman educates students on the skills necessary for effective interprofessional communication. Through this work, she published two peer-reviewed research articles on effective teaching methods for interprofessional communication. The compilation of roles in teaching, practice, and research support the IPE mobility simulation project by utilizing her practical knowledge of patient mobilization and effective communication with the scholarship of teaching and learning.

Background: In the intensive care unit setting, lack of mobility can cause deconditioning and weakness, common problems for patients that require mechanical ventilation. Early mobility for patients in respiratory failure has been found to be safe and feasible.
