Donice “Nicey” Brooks is a 2022 graduate of the University of Connecticut School of Nursing, UST/AHEC Scholar, and recipient of the Carolyn Ladd Widmer Undergraduate Leadership Award. She is Vice Chair and host for Urban Service Talks, the official podcast program for the UST/AHEC Scholars program. She has been a participant, coach and mentor in the Home and Community Care Program. Nicey begins her nursing career as an emergency department nurse in Hartford, CT.

Healthcare profession curriculums provide limited opportunities for students to collaborate with each other across disciplines. If they learn about issues like underserved populations and social determinants of health (SDoH), which truly require team-based care, it is mainly from lectures and textbooks.
