David Farmer, PhD, LPC, LMFT, FNAP Executive Director Interprofessional Practice and Behavioral Health Dr. Farmer served as the Founding UNTHSC Director of Interprofessional Education and Practice 2012 to 2021. In 2021 he accepted a new role in leadership in the integration of behavioral health in primary care within HSC Health, as part of HSC’s Whole Health initiative. As a faculty member in medical education in the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine, Dr. Farmer teaches skills development in clinical communication and emotional intelligence. Dr. Farmer came to UNTHSC with twenty-three years’ experience in the clinical practice of counseling psychology.

The Texas IPE Consortium began in 2015, as a collaboration between the Texas state funded Academic Health Science Centers (HSC) including The University of Texas System, Texas Tech University, The University of North Texas, and Texas A&M. Interprofessional Education (IPE) facilitators are critical to the development of positive and collaborative learning experiences for students from different disciplines. These health professions educators require a broad range of interprofessional knowledge and skills for effective implementation, which usually necessitates a significant adjustment from uniprofessional content delivery.
