Christine Bakos-Block is an early stage investigator developing the expertise needed to carry out independent research, under the mentorship if Dr. James Langabeer and a seasoned team of faculty at University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. Her research interests are substance abuse, interprofessional collaboration in research and clinical interventions, behavioral health and patient activation. Her academic training to date has provided her with an excellent background in behavioral health and behavioral interventions for sustained behavior change.

Background: Despite the proven effectiveness of medications for opioid use disorder, the US continues to see record numbers of overdose deaths. Health professionals' attitudes towards opioid disorders impact their ability to manage this public challenge. Misconceptions and beliefs among health professionals create barriers in management of opioid use disorders (MOUD). Pharmacists play a vital role in battling this epidemic.
