Ashley J. Jackson, BA, is a Clinical Research Coordinator in the department of neurology at the University of California San Francisco Memory and Aging Center. Before joining UCSF, she was a professional ballet dancer. Ashley graduated magna cum laude with a performing arts degree in the Liberal Education for Arts Professionals (LEAP) program at Saint Mary’s College of California. Currently, she works with research participants living with Alzheimer’s Disease, Frontotemporal Dementia, and Primary Progressive Aphasia in hopes of better understanding the science behind decision making. Ashley has a passion for community engagement and alleviating health disparities among underserved populations.

Background and significance:Many patients assessed by the Memory and Aging Center at UCSF Health are well insured with caregiver support and not from underrepresented racial and ethnic backgrounds. They do not represent the San Francisco Bay Area’s regional diversity seeking specialty referrals. With longevity and the chronic conditions of aging, the United States will have an estimated 14 million adults with some type of dementia by 2060, with women and minorities most impacted (The Truth About Aging and Dementia | CDC, 2019).
