Angela Willits, MSW, LCSW is an associate clinical professor, director of the Part-Time MSW Program and co-chair of the mental health focus area in the Sandra Rosenbaum School of Social Work at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She teaches practice courses in mental health, as well as provides supervision and consultation to MSW students and community partners. Prior to teaching, she was a mental health social worker for the Department of Veterans Affairs with a specialty in treating posttraumatic stress disorder. She is a certified provider of Prolonged Exposure Therapy for PTSD and Cognitive Processing Therapy.

Exposure to trauma is common and can have a significant impact on mental health and wellbeing across the lifespan. Recognizing and addressing trauma in ways that avoid re-traumatization and promote healing are a shared responsibility of health professionals. Learners from different programs enter interprofessional spaces with varying degrees of knowledge, skills, and experiences. A resulting challenge is designing activities and experiences that don’t intimidate or overwhelm more novice learners while still providing value to those more experienced.
