Alison Pittman, Ph.D., RN, CPN, CNE, CHSE is a Clinical Assistant Professor at Texas A&M College of Nursing. Her specialty area is pediatric nursing with a focus on vulnerable populations. Dr. Pittman has facilitated interprofessional education in health care for the last ten years, including co-authoring and implementing TAMU Health’s first interprofessional pediatric end-of-life simulation in 2015. She is also part of an interprofessional faculty research group to improve health education for sexual and gender minorities. This team was the recipient of the Research Award for Interprofessional Excellence from TAMU IPER in 2019.

Values/Ethics for Interprofessional Practice is addressed less frequently in the published literature than the other IPEC Core Competencies of Roles and Responsibilities, Interprofessional Communication, and Teams and Teamwork. This may reflect a dearth of efforts to fully integrate this competency into interprofessional curricula. Such a deficiency is problematic in that managing complex ethical situations while maintaining mutual respect and common values is a substantial challenge, particularly across professions.
